his paper explores the tone marks added to the proper nouns of Korean origin in Kanemigibon (which is assumed to be a 16th century copy), provides this research outcome as a reference material, and analyzes the characteristics of the manuscript in comparison with middle Chinese, Japanese “Go’on,” and Japanese “Kan’on.” As a result, ‘Hyosyo, Kyosho, Nisyo’ of middle Chinese in our material tend to be marked as ‘Hosyo’ in the Kanemigi manuscript. In this respect, the Kanemigi manuscript does not reflect middle Chinese itself. On the other hand, ‘Kyosyo’ in Japan “Go’on” corresponds to the ‘Hyosyo’ marking, whereas ‘Josyo, Kyosyo’ in Japanese “Kan’on” correspond to the ‘Hyosyo’ marking. It is revealed that the marking for the proper nouns of Korean origin does not entirely reflect Japanese “Go’on” and “Kan’on.” Similar patterns to the “Hyosyo-marking tendency” are also found in Iwasakibon, Maedabon, and Toshoryobon. Thus, Kanemigibon could be used as a material to supplement quantitative deficiency of old manuscripts, even though it was made during the 16th century.
