This study examined the removal rate of mixed heavy metals from aqueous solution using sediment amendment composite. Sediment amendment composite was composed of clean sediment (40%), zeolite (20%), recycled aggregate (10%), steel slag (10%), oyster shell (10%), and cement (10%). The composite are useful to adsorb heavy metals because it mainly contains CaO, SiO2, Al2O3, and Fe2O3 (81.3%), which are major ingredient of adsorbent for heavy metal. The kinetic data showed that adsorption kinetics follows the pseudo first and second order models. The equilibrium data were well fitted by the Freundlich model and showed the affinity order of Pb2+ ≥ Cu2+ > Cd2+ ≅ Zn2+ ≅ Ni2+. The results also showed that adsorption rate slightly increased with increasing pH from 2 to 8. From these results, it was concluded that the sediment amendment composite can be successfully used to remove heavy metals from a contaminated aquatic environments.
