In recent years, selected target sites for the Ministry of Education's School Space Innovation Project and the Government's Urban Regeneration New Deal have been identified, along with the use cases of schools, especially closed schools. General teaching buildings, multi-purpose auditorium, and playground spaces are being used for local regeneration in various ways. In particular, now is judged to be the right time to maximize the utilization rate of school space innovation projects through the use of idle school spaces amid predictions of school closure. In particular, a comparative analysis of cases of cultural facility spaces utilizing closed schools in downtowns and suburbs and the connection of school space innovation projects in Gyeongnam and the Seoul Office of Education will suggest many possibilities for idle school spaces. This study cross-analyzes the trend of local cultural facilities using closed school spaces, programs using closed schools, school space innovation projects, and the creation of spaces for recycling idle spaces and programs. By investigating and analyzing mutual social, cultural, and spatial common denominators, the possibility of future closed school facilities in downtowns and suburbs can be explored as possible cultural spaces for students and local residents. In the future, it may be used as an index to effectively return policy and economic performance to the local community by presenting a method of utilizing closed school spaces linked to school space innovation projects, and a sustainable architectural space plan.
