This study examines the adaptive reuse technique of a regeneration model related to the existing ruins and remains in the former Cheongju-eupseong, a historical city center. It was viewed from the aspect of preservation of the place, restoration of buildings, and the borrowing and creation of images, targeting the traces of the fortress wall and four gates, and the government complex. The results of the study are as follows. 1) First, in the fortress wall, the ruined square fortress traces are maintained as a pedestrian path. Around the round cut edges and the four fortress gates, the town fortress wall is reproduced like the partially restored fortress (near YMCA, 2013), or the image of the size, shape and pattern of the castle is reflected on the facade of the surrounding buildings. 2) Second, in the four fortress gates, the east-west and north gates emphasize the place of passage, and the south gate is the place of meeting, and on the extension line of the restored fortress wall, the gate tower of the west gate that can secure open space inside and outside is reproduced, and the entrance is emphasized or augmented reality techniques are introduced to remind the image of the fortress gate. 3) Third, In the government complex, the old Dongheon, Sanchang, and barracks areas existing as government offices and parks are preserved as government parks, and the buried Gaeksa (guesthouse) and Unjuheon, the central structure of the barracks, are restored in addition to the existing Dongheon, Mangseonru, and Yeongmun. It also reflects images of historical and urban context through the expression of territoriality by old fences (boundary lines) and new street networks, as in Dongheon.
