This study intends to understand the virtual properties of contemporary space through the characteristics of media and the theory of presence. The development of media and technologies has changed human perception system and spatial systems. Contemporary space has combined with media and technology altering its form and characteristics. The emergence of virtual space through new media has especially made a big impact in spatial systems. The combination of architecture and virtual space makes it difficult to explain contemporary space only by factors such as the permanence, fixability, and construction of traditional space. From this point of view, this study aims to identify virtual properties in contemporary space through spatial cognitive elements of virtual space. The elements of virtual space are extracted based on media and the theory of presence: Area, Experience, and Sociality. The case analyses are conducted to identify architectural expressions when the virtual properties are expressed in physical form. As a result, these three virtual properties are expressed within contemporary physical space: 'Blurring Boundaries,' 'Multi-sensory Stimulation through Technology,' and 'Expansion of Interaction'.
