The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has forever changed the livesof many across the world. Like many others, New Yorkers witnessed their hospitalsystems become overwhelmed with a massive influx of critically ill patients. Protocols,workflow, staffing, and individual responsibilities all changed as health careproviders scrambled to help where they could. As we see, for the second time thisyear, a rapid rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the United States, I wanted toshare our experience as vascular surgeons during the first surge from a health caresystem located in New York City, one of the largest epicenters of the pandemic.
