의도적인 일산화탄소(CO) 중독이 증가하면서 생존한 환자는 의식이 없어 화상 상처가 심해져서 피판술이 필요할 수 있다. 좌 후하부 다리에 심한 접촉 화상을 입은 44세 여성은 가피절개술과 활배근 근육 신경 혈관을 문합한 유리판 및 두피 피부 이식 수술 중에 0.008 인치 (300 cm2)의 두피 피부를 수확 시에, 피부의 약 25 cm2가 실수로 우측 후두에서 두꺼운 피부 이식편이 수확되었다. 절단 모발 사이의 표피와 진피 재생은 0.008 인치 두께의 피부 공여부는 수술 후 9일과 두꺼운 피부 공여부는 수술 후 11일에 달성되었다. 화상입은 아래다리는 두 번의 수술로 구제되었고, 수술 후 1년에 보조 신발을 이용하여 보행이 가능하였다. 이 증례에서 두꺼운 부분층 피부를 수확한 두피 기증 부위가 비대성 반흔이나 탈모증 없이 치료할 수 있다는 가능성을 제시했다.
