Herein, we report that horseradish peroxidase (HRP) initiates the polymerization of catecholic precursors, resulting in local generation of brown-to-black pigments on HRP-printed area. Given the contribution in natural adhesive systems, catecholic moieties in these pigments seems to drive the localization on the surface with HRP without diffusion to solution.
