Hydrogels are multi-functional materials having large amount of water and three-dimensional hydrophilic polymer networks. We used the TEMPO-treated cellulose nanofibrils (TEMPO-CNF), a kind of hydrogels, and metal salts such as (Fe(NO₃)₃, Al(NO₃)₃, Cu(NO₃)₂, Ca(NO₃)₂, Zn(NO₃)₂) solutions to induce metal-carboxylate coordination bonding, which could improve the mechanical strength of TEMPO-CNF.
