Recent accumulating evidence has demonstrated the function of exosomes and miRNAs from HCV-infected hepatocytes in inflammatory responses indirectly driving liver disease. Exosomes have proteins, mRNA and miRNAs which can alter the physiological processes in the recipient cells; however, the mechanism of HCV-mediated secretions of exosome is unknown. Here, we tried to identify the novel pathway which affects the exosome secretion and composition in HCV-infected hepatocytes. Our data shows that HCV infection caused the increase in the secretions of exosomes and miRNAs (miR-122 and miR-146a) depending on caspase-3/Panx1/P2X4 pathway activation.
