Siloxanes are anthropogenic compounds commonly found in consumer chemicals, which owe their name to their composition of silicon, oxygen, and alkanes. Siloxanes are commonly detected in indoor and urban environments, and D5 siloxane is a rather volatile compound indicative of consumer product use. Smog chamber and oxidation flow reactor (OFR) experiments have found certain siloxanes to form secondary organosiloxane aerosol (SOSA), however, there is uncertainty about the aerosol mass yields and product volatilities. Parameterizing the SOSA yields and volatilities is necessary for its incorporation into air quality models.
