Objectives: Continuous glucose monitors (CGM) for patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) have been reimbursed from this year, However, there not enough evidence-based studies of the use of CGM from a cost-effective perspective. Thus, more evidence-based studies on cost-ef- fectiveness are needed to provide sufficient evidence for CGM reimbursement. The study aims to evaluate cost-effectiveness of CGM, compared to disposable materials including blood glucose monitors for patients with type 1 diabetes. Methods: To evaluate cost-effectiveness of CGM for pa- tients with T1DM, four studies were extracted and analyzed. Results: As a result of examining the four studies, the three reported CGM is cost-effective from a societal perspective, but the other found the use of CGM is not cost-effective from a payer’s perspective. The reviewed studies suggest that CGM is cost-effective if the following factors are satisfied such as more frequent use of censor and more parents’ support for pediatrics. Conclusion: This study added the evidence of cost-effec- tiveness for the CGM to the existing literature in Korea. The decision on CGM reimbursement has to be made based on benefits from the patient-centeredness and Korean-specific health policy envi- ronment from the cost-effective perspective. Further study is recommended to show the cost-effec- tiveness of CGM usage with recent data or data reflecting health policy in Korea.
