This paper is a study on the origin of <Killing the dog(殺狗)> published as a Sijo(時調) works in the Daehanmaeilsinbo at 1909. <Killing the dog(殺狗)> was created under the influence of Saseolsijo <Gaereulyeonameuninagireudoi(개를 여나믄이나 기르되)> and a dog-themed sijo in Hagiyaki. Unlike the original work, however, it sings about criticism of the traitor and love for his country. This work expresses the desire to achieve national independence and the freedom of the people through the threat to dogs referring to the traitor. The form of wishing for hope through threats also appears in ancient Korean songs, <Gujiga(龜旨歌)>, and <Cheoyongga(處容歌)> of the Goryeo Dynasty. This work also indirectly expresses love for the people and their country by expressing resentment and anger toward dogs. Such an indirect expression of love can also be found in <Seokyeongbyeolgok(西京別曲)>, a Goryeo song that expresses love for lover in a roundabout way in the form of resentment toward Sakong. This work also uses the dog rule, which was announced in 1909 as part of the oppression of Joseon people. The dog rule announced at that time was that the owner's dog without a name tag would be killed, and the author of the work would define the traitor as an unknown dog and express his will to kill them according to the rules. This work is one of the important examples that shows that our classical poetry was growing into literature that contained the concerns of the times in the modern era, ostensibly showing a sense of criticism of foreign powers and the traitorous people, but behind it expresses a love for the people and their country and a desire for its independence.
