The COVID19 pandemic has presented new and incredible challenges for millions of workers around the globe. Last 12 months, the workforce at large has quickly and strategically navigated the sudden shift to remote working while maintaining the symbolic relationship between business continuity and employee well-being. This study was launched to investigate the current shift of the office environment, specially for back-to-the office, analyzed the design strategies suggested by office planning and design practices, Five major tasks in the design strategies for back-to-the-office was found, such as physical distancing and optimal density, communication physically and psychologically, hygiene and cleaning, health and wellness, and space flexibility and multi-functionality. 20 design practices which were designed for back-to-the offices after COVID19, were selected to investigate how those five tasks were concerned in design solutions. Physical distancing and optimal density were mostly applicated through the design practices overall, with distancing between workstations, one-way circulation, screening and monitoring protocols. Other four tasks were also applied in various ways to support the back-to-the office strategies. By the research, those five tasks were highly interacted and accelerate to improve the safety and health quality of the office. This study was to help the firms and designers who not ready for a new shift, to rethink their office spaces through both forward-looking and simple way to protect their office and employees from the current and future pathogens and help them feel safe coming back to the office. More studies should be expanded to explore the new materials and policies for advanced standards of space elements including surfaces and finishes.
