In recent years, the beauty industry has undergone dramatic changes in response to demands for safe and sustainable products. In particular, many consumers have become more interested in the safety and origin of the ingredients in their beauty products. This has led to the improvement of laws and regulations concerned with the development of eco-friendly beauty products. Artificial components and chemicals in beauty products can cause direct and indirect harm to the users. This is because most products contain specific volatile ingredients that can be easily ingested by the human body. Until now, there has been little research into the harmfulness of these volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in workplaces, such as beauty salons. In this dissertation, a VOCs analysis and a cytotoxicity evaluation were conducted simultaneously to examine and verify the safety of hair dyes. The VOC evaluation was conducted using the ‘MS 300 55’ method, a vehicle interior air quality testing program. The cytotoxicity evaluation was also performed using the ‘TTT assay’ method. Based on the above results, this study targets the establishment of emission standards of VOCs in aesthetic products and provide basic data needed to develop eco-friendly products and improve work environments for the purposes of safety and sustainability.
