Purpose: This study aims to identify the impact of regional development awareness on local residents’ awareness and social capital formation through the development of local marine sports tourism products and to provide local government officials and local residents with sustainable marine sports tourism sites.
Method: A total of 210 people were selected for the list considering the gender and age distribution ratio, and a total of 200 questionnaires were effective samples. Using the statistical package program SPSS ver. 23.0, data processing was performed in multiple regression analysis.
Results: First, it was analyzed that the awareness of tourism, environmental and economic regional development through the development of regional marine sports tourism had a highly significant impact on solidarity and settlement awareness of local residents. Second, tourism, environmental, and economic regional development awareness through regional marine sports tourism development was analyzed to have a highly significant impact on social participation capital and social trust capital. Tourism and environmental factors had a high impact on social cooperation and capital formation. Third, it was analyzed that solidarity and settlement awareness of local residents had a highly significant impact on the formation of social participation capital, social trust capital, and social cooperation capital.
Conclusion: In conclusion, small and medium-sized cities in the region that promote the development of marine tourism cities are preceded by continuous communication to recognize long-term development through selection and concentration of marine residents’ potential social capital formation (participation, trust, and cooperation) capabilities are maintained.
