Although public concern regarding animal experiments is growing, the use of live animals for biomedical research is also increasing in Korea. This scenario at the Seoul National University (SNU) is no exception. In this report, a decade of protocol reviews across the SNU was collated, and some results were compared with national data. From the medical school to the college of engineering, many researchers across the SNU have submitted animal experimental protocols to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) of SNU (SNU-IACUC). Thus, animal research activities at SNU are wide, and ranges from agriculture to translational medicine. In 2019, the committee reviewed more than 1,700 protocols, including protocol amendment requests.
