Thanks to its simple form and light self-weight, a plate girder is regarded as most suitable structure for pre-fabrication technology. When it comes to its design, the upper and lower flanges are dominant factors from the point of constructability and serviceability checking stage, respectively. Thus if the stress generated in the flanges in each review stage can be reduced to some extent, their thickness can be slimmer, which leads to weight reduction of whole girder.
