Flame retardants are widely used as additives for preventing flammable products from burning in fire. Recently, production and consumption of OPFRs have been increased and substituted the brominated flame retardants. However, there were studies reported risk of OPFRs contained both toxicity and availability to environments. Thus, it is required to regulate the concentration of OPFRs in environments. There is moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) process which is the wastewater treatment process used plastic carrier, called biomedia, to increasing their treatment efficiency. However, biomedia is also made up with plastic which is possible to contain the OPFRs as flame retardants or plasticizer.
