Temporal and spatial changes and contamination status of physico-chemical factors(mean grain size, ignition loss, chemical oxygen demand, Acid Volatile Sulfide, trace metal) were researched in February and August 2020 in the coastal area nearby aquaculture area in Gyeonggi Bay, South Korea.
The mean grain size was ranged from 1.3~4.74 Φ in February, and 1.17~6 Φ in August. The sedimentary types were mostly gravelly muddy sand, and the sediments containing more than 90% sand appeared in Pung Is. and Yuk Is. In winter, IL was 0.9~4.2%, and the signs of contamination by organic matter were not significant, and in summer, 1.0-5.1%(average 2.9%), and most of the stations did not show any signs of contamination. But Jebu Is. slightly exceeded the pollution standard of 5%. COD, an indirect indicator of organic contamination, was 1.87~11.95㎎/g, and the value was less than 20㎎/g in the entire Gyeonggi Bay. COD showed a positive correlation with mud content. In the coasts of Sihwa and Hwaseong tide embankment, the COD was higher than in the Pung Is. and the Yuk Is. (sand 90%).
