Background/Aims
Incidence of retroperitoneal liposarcomas varies between 0.07- 0.2% of all retroperitoneal tumours. Surgical management of these tumours require multivisceral resection due to their large size and frequent adjacent organ involvement. Multivisceral resections have been shown to increase the disease free survival. We report a case of large retroperitoneal liposarcoma managed with multivisceral en bloc resection.
Methods
A 75 year old male with good performance status presented with gradual distension of abdomen of two years duration. Contrast enhanced CT scan of chest, abdomen and pelvis showed a 40 x 30 cm hetrogenously enhancing mass seen in the retroperitoneum encasing left kidney and left colon and pushing stomach and pancreas anteriorly.
