Combining the spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) with electron spin resonance (ESR) [1] enables us to investigate spin states of single atoms and inter-atomic coupling with unprecedented spatial and energy resolution. Employing ESR-STM, we have characterized the magnetic dipolar [2], exchange [3,4], and even hyperfine interactions [5] of atoms on a surface.
