Recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA), widely used for thrombolytic agents, has several challenges for safety treatment. It has a short half-life time in our body, and furthermore hemorrhagic transformation might occur when the delayed treatment was tried after 3 hours in acute ischemic patients. In order to address these issues, we developed highly uniform 3 μm-sized discoidal polymeric particles containing superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) and rtPA for precise and controlled drug delivery.
