Surface enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) amplifies the molecular sensing signal in infrared region by coupling enhanced near-field arising from a surface with a molecular vibration of analyte. Plasmonic effects arising from metal nanostructures can be controlled to enhance the surface near-field and resonate with target wavelength. We present a plasmonic metamaterial absorber as a sensing platform for SEIRA. An aluminum metamaterial absorber (AMA) with a nanogap consists of an aluminum (Al) cross nanoantenna, a 150 nm thick Al mirror, and an undercut etched SiO2 dielectric spacer.
