Purpose
Thoracoscopic repair (TR) of esophageal atresia (EA) was first performed in 1999. Recently, many pediatric surgical units perform the minimally invasive EA repair. The aim of this study is to compare early clinical outcomes between the TR and open repair (OR) for EA.
Methods
We collected the clinical data of the patients underwent primary repair for EA with distal tracheoesophageal fistula (Gross Type C) from January 2012 and December 2019 retrospectively. 31 patients underwent primary repair of the EA were enrolled in this study. TR has been performed since April 2016 in our center. We compared two groups, one which included 18 OR patients before April 2016 and another which included 13 TR patients after April 2016, with the patients’ characteristics, operation related outcomes, and postoperative outcomes. We compared clinical outcomes including anastomosis leakage, stricture and reflux at postoperative 1-year follow-up.
