Introduction and Background
Failure of rotator cuff repair (RCR) has been reported in 20-94% of patients at 1-2-year follow-up with 80% occurring within 3-months of surgery. New promising treatment options include enhancement of RCR with growth factors, stem cells, and a biologically-augmented patch to create an ideal environment for tissue regeneration. We investigated clinical and functional outcomes in patients with multiple comorbidities that underwent RCR plus bovine bioinductive patch augmentation for partial (PRCT) or full thickness rotator cuff tear (FRCT).
Material and Method
A consecutive series of patients with PRCT or FRCT that underwent RCR plus bovine bioinductive patch augmentation by a single surgeon (2015-2018) were identified. Diabetics and smokers weren’t excluded. Pre-/postoperative physical exam included shoulder flexion, ER at side and at 90° abduction, IR ROM (on a scale 1-17 (hand to the level of sacrum=1 and T5=17)) and manual muscle strength.
