This study aims to compare growth characteristics of cucumber seedlings grown from a three-different plug cell sizes (50, 72 or 128 holes) of seedling tray in two types of growing media, including general PottingMix and cocopeat under a net house located in ADAFSA (Abu Dhabi Agriculture And Food Safety Authority), UAE. Experiment was conducted in a net-house nursery located in ADAFSA with cucumber verities, including Borja, Dreamliner, Gulfstream, Imea, Katrina, Nagene, Sausan, and Zeco. The seeds were sown in the seedling tray with two different growing media at the 28<sup>th</sup> of February, 2021. The seedling trays were submerged in water every 1 ‒ 2days until the water is soaked up. The germination rate was higher than 85%, regardless of variety, growing media and cell size of seedling plug. Germination starting date was later in the seeds grown in the cocopeat substrate that may be due to water holding capacity, and there was no significant difference depending on the cell size of seedling plus. The second true leaf has begun to appear in the seedlings grown on the potting mix while the first true leaf has appeared in the seedlings grown on the cocopeat substrate. The seedlings grown on the potting mix began to bend their stems on the 11th day of sowing, and on the 14th day, the stem elongation was seriously extended and thus seems to be difficult to use as a normal seed ... 전체 초록 보기
