Sicyos angulatus is widely spread throughout Asia and Europe, hindering agricultural productivity, and has been designated as an invasive species by the Ministry of Environment in Korea. S. angulatus has the potential to be used as a raw material for biorefinery because it is composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin.
