Phycobiliproteins (PBPs) are one of the most feasible pigments for human health, cosmetics and diagnostic markers which are produced by cyanobacteria or red algae. A cyanobacterium, Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803, also produces PBPs which are C-phycocyanin and allophycocyanin. B-phycoerythrin (B-PE) is a kind of the PBPs which Synechocystis do not produce. We inserted the gene related to B-PE to Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 to enhance PBPs accumulation and photosynthetic efficiency.
