The purpose of this study was to explore and apply criteria that can promote recreation specialization by predicting which model is optimal for the degree of participation and recreation specialization of bicycle riding participants. A survey was conducted on hobbyists who participated in the bicycle riding event held at the S-City Sports Council, and a total of 450 people responded to the survey using the purposive sampling method. The data analyses were carried out using the SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 25.0 programs, and frequency analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and nonlinear regression analysis (curve estimation analysis) were performed. As the results, first, the optimal model for the relationship between bicycle riding participation frequency and recreational specialization was identified as a Cubic model. Second, the optimal model for the relationship between the intensity of participation in bicycle riding and recreational specialization was identified as a Quadratic model. Third, the optimal model for the relationship between bicycle riding experience and recreational specialization was identified as a Cubic model. Fourth, the optimal model for the relationship between bicycle riding distance and recreational specialization was identified as a Quadratic model. This study has great academic significance in that it has explained recreational specialization as a nonlinear regression model through polynomial regression, which is an extension of the linear model, as a method to maintain the interpretation power of the linear model as much as possible and to extend the linearity assumption.
