The examination of design particularities within democracy can raise significant understanding of new perspectives of the design work towards social innovation. This is because when discussing the representative democracy crisis scenario, public participation is one of the political ventures that are being used for institutions all over the world trying to solve pressure points generated by the crisis. Considering that, design methods and tools have been shown as valuable alternatives in the development of participation policies. This paper explores the potential of participatory design approach, supporting digital social innovation, to offer solutions for the problems faced by digital public participation platforms. Examining cases and arguments, this paper argues that case studies from previous experiences of participatory design focusing on government digital participation can bring good insights for the development of future digital participation platforms.
