The improvement of life level has brought the increase in the type and the use frequency of household appliances and facilities within a residential space. Because the indoor equipments such as refrigerator and kitchen utensils are located in the open area of household, they significantly influence to the noise environment of nearby indoor space. Efforts should also be made to improve the noise environment in terms of residential designers as well as to control the source level of indoor equipment from the maker"s point of view. However, there has been not sufficient attempt to this, and the status of noise environment by noisy indoor equipment in households, problems and the plan for improvement are not suggested yet. This study seeks the sound insulation and sound absorption design plan that can improve the indoor noise environment which has been deteriorated due to increasing indoor equipment. First, this study identifies the precedent study on resident survey on the indoor equipment noise and the status and the problem of indoor space specific noise level in the house. In order to solve the problem, it figured out the noise reduction function 4 sound absorption and insulation designs in total such as the installation of sound insulation box, application of sound-absorbing materials in the noise source, the installation of barrier and the change of indoor finishing materials. As a result of applying the suggested sound insulation and absorption designs, the noise environment of indoor equipment has improved in each space. This is considered to be the effective architecture design plan for the improvement of noise environment of living space under the circumstance where the indoor equipment use has increased.
