Based on the literature review and logical analysis, this study thoroughly investigates the concept of free combat in actual combat. The findings revealed the existence of several misunderstandings about free combat, including alienated concept, isolation of attack and defense, invariant techniques, and excessive stress on power and speed. Thus, we analyzed the concepts of traditional martial arts in actual combat to reconstruct a new concept system for free combat in actual combat. We found that the Xingyi boxing is the most appropriate fraction for actual combat in traditional martial arts; it is simple in form but practical in actual combat with considerable variation in its tactics, warranting the maintenance of “integrated thinking” in actual combat and consistency of attack and defense. In addition, it asks the player to combat within reach of the opponent, upholding the principle that the combat in close distance overwhelms long boxing. Besides, it emphasizes the application of “the rule of door axis,” which needs players to maintain the balance of their body’s centerline and make the opponents off theirs, letting them start hitting and then get the better of them. Overall, from the perspective of culturology, a comprehensive analysis on the concept of Xingyi boxing in actual combat is of paramount practical significance and contemporary value for better inheriting traditional martial arts techniques and endorsing the integration of traditional martial arts and free combat.
