The purpose of this study is to examine the actual conditions of wearing sportswear to improve the discomfort of wearing sportswear for the physically handicapped and to investigate the preferences of sportswear from the perspective of universal design. To achieve the purpose of the study, a questionnaire was conducted on 158 people with disabilities who use sports facilities for the disabled in the metropolitan area as a convenience sampling, which is a non-probability sampling. For the collected data, frequency analysis, t-test, and one-way variance analysis were performed using SPSS 20.0, and the statistical significance level was set to α=.05, and the following conclusions were obtained. First, the participants in the study had the highest frequency of participation in men in their 40s and in their 30s. Second, as the characteristics of sports participation, it was found that there were many participants in wheelchair basketball, those who use wheelchairs during exercise, and those who participated in the exercise for more than 5 years. Third, when participating in sports activities, many participants wear sportswear and displayed dissatisfaction about inconvenience of use, size, price and etc by types of disability. Fourth, if universal sportswear is developed, it is found that they are more willing to wear it and prefer the price ranged from 50,000 to 100,000 won. Fifth, it was found that wheelchair users prefer the one-touch button function and the two-way zipper function, and non-wheelchair users prefer the ease of wearing and taking off. Sixth, it was found that people with brain lesions prefer detachable function such as sleeves, and those with spinal cord prefer the ease of wearing and taking off.
