The purpose of this study was to investigate the general tendency and related variables of family strengths using DeFrain & Stinnett’s Family Strengths Inventory. The subjects of this study were 616 adult males and females aged 19 to 69 years. Data was collected online using standardized questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis, two-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression were applied to analyze the data. The results of the study were as follows. First, Family Strengths Inventory consisted of five sub-factors(mutual consideration, the ability to cope with stress and crisis, avoiding negative communication, emotional tie, intergenerational connections and spiritual well-being) and mutual consideration score was the highest. Second, variables affecting the sub-factors of family strengths differed according to marital status and gender. the factors that affect family strengths in common with gender were life satisfaction, resilience, and relationship ethics. According to marital status, Unmarried people were affected by positive generational relationship and average monthly income, and married people were affected by marital satisfaction and socio-economic status. Future research, theoretical and practical implications were added. The results of this study are meaningful in that they provided basic data which should be considered in family counseling and education field when developing programs to improve family strengths of adult males and females in the future.
