This study explores the characteristics of the color scheme of the Dancheong pattern in the Geunjeongjeon of Gyeongbokgung. Such features affect its formation based on changes in time and space. Visual perception elements were observed by approaching the location from a distant view to a bordering view. Meanwhile, the color schemes of the core parts and patterns and the hwi, were measured for analysis. The result is summarized as follows: ① The surfaces of the parts in contact serve as the color scheme that distinguishes them visually. This is a formative technique contrary to the fact that the placement of the form and pattern of traditional Korean architecture is always symmetrical. ② The structure and color scheme of the gongpo appear complex, but this is a result of the same color scheme on the hwi being repeated. ③ The lines of muk (N1.1-1.4) and bun (N9.4-9.8) are between the hwi and dancheong pattern drawn on a single part. In this regard, the two lines differ greatly in terms of brightness, but the difference in three properties between the adjacent pattern and hwi is significant and this distinguishes the boundary. However, because it is thin, the boundary is not distinguished at a distance of greater than a medium view. ④ At a distance, less than the neighboring view, the bit of hwi is contrasted in terms of brightness and chroma, which allows them to be clearly perceived. However, at a distance greater than such, assimilation of color is not distinguished. ⑤ It is only perceived when the part or pattern in a blue shade with poor conspicuity and hwi reaches within medium view. Furthermore, yellow is not produced as a single color on the pattern or hwi, and is color schemed in units of bit. Thus, within the neighboring view, this yellow bit is added for the building to appear more exuberant. ⑥ From a distance within the neighboring view, the baetbadak perception area surface of the red cheomcha and buyeon increase for the building to appear more exuberant. ⑦ The muhricho of the yeonmok and buyeon are just as exuberant as the muhricho of the changbang. However, because only the buri is perceived from the distant view to the neighboring view, the effect on the color formation is small. Nonetheless, from the bordering view, their muhricho to the baetbadak of the buyeon are perceived to add exuberance. ⑧ Within a distance of the neighboring view, the color on the left and right sides of the parts protruding from the wall are perceived to appear exuberant.
