충청남도 서산에 위치한 기수역인 강수지로부터 Aphanizomenon gracile이 채집되었다. A. gracile은 사상체 다발을 형성하지 않고, 단독으로 부유하며, 휴면포자는 끝이 둥근 원통형으로 단독 존재하거나 간혹 쌍으로 나타났고, 이형세포로부터 1~7개의 세포간격으로 떨어져 분포하였다. 또한 A. gracile을 구분하는 가장 뚜렷한 특징은 휴면포자 양 끝에 위치한 컵모양의 점액질 막이 인접한 영양세포를 향해 열려 있는 것으로, 이와 같은 특징이 관찰되었다. 단일배양된 배양주 4주를 대상으로 휴면포자와 영양세포 사이의 컵 모양의 점액질 막의 유무를 확인하기 위해 BG-11 배지를 1 × 10<SUP>-1</SUP>로 희석한 빈 영양배지에서 진탕 배양함으로써 이와 같은 특징이 유도되는 것을 관찰하였다. A. gracile 배양주를 이용한 16S rRNA 및 rpoB 유전자 분자계통분석에서 국내 배양주가 기존에 보고된 A. gracile과 가장 가까운 계통유연관계를 나타냈다. 이상의 결과를 통하여 A. gracile을 국내 미기록종으로 보고하는 바이다.
