Accurate information on habitat distribution of protected fauna is essential for the habitat management of Korea, a country with very high development pressure. The objectives of this study were to develop habitat suitability model of Korean or Amur Goral (Naemorhedus goral raddeanus) by employing GIS and logistic regression, and to create habitat distribution map, and to prepare essential habitat management of endangered and protected species of Korea. The modeling process of this study had following three steps. First, GIS database of environmental factors related to habitat use and availability of goral were built. Location data were collected using GPS. Second, environmental factors affecting habitat use and availability were identified through chi-square test. Finally, a habitat suitability model for goral based on logistic regression was developed. The results of the study were as follows. First, habitat availability showed that natural environmental factors to affect goral habitat were elevation, slope, landform and distance to stream. Second, the habitat suitability model for goral had a high classification accuracy of 81.8% at cutoff value of 0.5.
