Within a self-design learning environment, such as video making or photo retouching, design students were frustrated by the complexity of some of the professional applications. If a situation arises where visual effects are an essential technique for enhancing information recognition for communication purposes, control is requested. Design students must control and respond well for increased efficiency and clarity when managing transitions and information that can prevent serious visual impairment accidents. To do this, situational awareness and appropriate decision making are essential. However, it is clear that design students are easily distracted by other tasks or sets of tools.
This study suggests that besides concerns about enhancing the functions of professional design applications, it is essential to consider how to manage the applications’ visual systems, so it is easier for students to learn. The type of visual information affecting design students’ abilities in communication, confidence, and creativity was examined through experiments. Experimental results indicate that situational awareness information influenced the communication, confidence, and creative thinking of design students.
