Patterns of English coronal stop variation within a word are well-documented. However, little is known at present to ascertain if these generalizations apply across words, specifically when the following syllable is stressed. This paper explores aspects of English coronal stop alternations focusing on flapping across the word boundary. Results indicate that a coronal stop undergoes flapping even when the following vowel is stressed, This is very different from the flapping rule applying within a word that bans flapping from applying before a stressed vowel. Voiceless coronal stops, however, were subject to glottaling unlike voiced counterparts, thus maintaining the same value with respect to the [±voice] feature.
