The purpose of the study was to suggest a standard sizing system for women's clothing. For the useful sizing system, it was necessary to define body types and size range of women. With the definition a sizing system has been developed. The study was carried out as follows: First, the relative articles and sizing systems of other countries were studied. Second, questionnaire survey was carried at 10 companies, all of which had 2 brands, one for young miss, the other for higher age group. The survey was to find out problems of the current sizing systems in Korea. Finally, with the raw data of'92 National Anthropometric Survey, a sizing system was developed, whose significant advance from the existing sizing system was introducing the concept of body type and the degree of fitness of garments. The development of the sizing system has been done with following stages. 1. Define of the control dimensions and the size interval. 2. Depending on the frequency of dimensions, set the size range to be included in the sizing system Stature 145∼170cm, Bust Girth 73∼103cm, Waist Girth 58∼85cm, Hip Girth 82∼102cm. 3. Categorise the body types depending on the Drop Value, which is the difference between the hip ink and bust girth(F type . Full hip, Ntype: Normal hips, 5 type. Slim hip). 4. For each garment types, the size charts were devised depending on the frequency. 5. From the developed size charts, the secondary dimensions were determined.
