The glenoid labrum is an ovoid rim of fibrous tissue that is firmly attached to the bony glenoid margins. It's tears often occur in the subacromial region. As injury of the labrum can lead to shoulder instability, arthrotomography of the shoulder joint is helpful in this diagnosis and in planning the choice of surgical reconsturction. We performed shoulder arthrotomography with a double contast method in 25 patients with shoulder instability of whom 21 had surgery. According to arthrotomographic findings glenoid labral injury was divided into three types as erosion, tearing, and detachment. By arthrotomography erosion of the glenoid labrum was diagnosed in 2 cases, tearing in 5 cases and detachment in 14 cases. These cases were confirmed at operation with 1 cases of misdiagnosis. There was no false-positive arthrotomography. We found excellent correlation between the arthrotomographic findings and operative findings in the instable shoulder.
