The adhesion and removal of $$\alpha$-Fe_20_3</TEX> particles on and from PET fabric in SDS or NPE solution of different pH, ionic strength and electrolyte were discussed in terms of their interaction potential energy. The adhesion of $$\alpha$-Fe_20_3</TEX> particles to PET fabric and its removal from PET fabric were carried out by using water bath shaker and Terg-0-Tometer under various solution conditions. The potential of PET fiber and $$\alpha$-Fe_20_3</TEX> particles in the electrolyte solution were measured by streaming potential and microelectrophoresis methods, respectively. The ξ potential energy of interaction between $$\alpha$-Fe_20_3</TEX> particles and PET fabric were calculated by using the heterocoagulation theory for a sphere-plate model. The adhesion and removal amount of $$\alpha$-Fe_20_3</TEX> particles on and from PET fabric increased with increasing time of adhesion and removal. The rates of adhesion and removal were high at the initial stage of adhesion and removal, and then the rates decreased with passing time. The adhesion and removal behaviors of o-Fe203 particles to PET fabric were influenced by the magnitude of potential energies. The adhesion amount of $$\alpha$-Fe_20_3</TEX> particles on PET fabric increased with decreasing magnitude of potential barrier and interaction potential energies, and the removal amount of $$\alpha$-Fe_20_3</TEX> particles from PET fabric increased with increasing magnitude of interaction potential energies.
