Some polymeric azo dyes were synthesized by polymeric reaction of styrene-maleic anhydride and vinyl acetate-maleic anhydride copolymer. For convincing polymeric reaction, model compound was synthesized and investigated by Elemental analysis, Infrared, and Mass Spectroscopy. The polymeric azo dyes were prepared by coupling reaction of copolyer with o-hydroxy-benzene diazonium salt. for the purpose of synthesis of water soluble polymeric dye, the carboxylgroup in the St-AZMA polymeric azo dye, haveing ortho-oxy-azo type ligand, was chelated by Cu, Co, Fe and Zn. Each premetallized polymeric dyes showed different colurs according to their coordinated metals. The colours of polymeric dyes were compared with their corresponding model compound by Visible Spectroscopy.
