It is a recent trend to perform the farium recuction for intussusception if the generla condition of the patients perimit. In cases of failure of barium reduction, operative reduction is the next procedure. We have perpormed barium reduction on 204 cases of instussusception that were admitted to W.M.B.H from Jan. 1976 to Mar. 1979. We reviewed these cases and report the following results. 1. The ratio of male to female was 1.9 : 1. 2. 97% of patients were under 2 years of age. 885 under 1 year of age. No patients were under 1 month of age. 3. The most prevalent season is the spring (Mar. to May). 4. The presenting points at barium enema were in the hepatic flexure(36.3%), Cecum (30.9%) and Transverse colon(29.4%). 5. The etiology was unknown in most of cases(93.15). 6. The clinical symptoms and signs were as follow ; bloody stool (91.25, vomiting (87.8%), palpable mass(55.4%) abdiminal distension(31.4%), etc. 7. The types of intussuscrption at operation were ileocolic (28.9%) ileocecal(22.2%). and tileoileal (11.1%) , etc. 8. The reduction rate of barium enema in relation to the duration of symptoms was about 80% within 24 hours and about 73 % over 24 hrs. 9. The type of management was barium reduction primarily, and in the cases of the failure, operative procedure was followed. 10 . The reduction rate of barium enema in relation to the finding of plain film was 76.4% in cases of no fowel obstruction and 79.6% in cases with folwel obstruction. 11. The recurrence rate was 7.4% and 3 cases expired after operative reduction.
