As an institution, Baewha, throughout its history has a distinctive character which is known throughout Korea. There are 5 dimension of its character. They are: National Education, Strong Nationalism, Strong Christian Identity, Methodist Mission School, and Women’s University. Specifically, my students in the classroom have very diverse social and religious background. Most of the students are struggling with economic issues continuously. Very limited students have upper-middle class background, and the rest of the students are lower class. These descriptions of the students strongly represent who they are and where they are coming from in the social-economic analysis. In terms of religious identity, most of my students are not Christian. They are Buddhist, Atheists, Shamanist, and non-religious. A handful identify as Christian, but very few of my students could be described as pious Christians. Under the circumstance, they are struggling with the issue of female self identity, for Korean society has been rapidly changing in general, not just economically but also socio-culturally as well. Given these students and Baewha’s identity, my project will be focused on the spiritual awareness of my students using of a methodology of story telling which is inspired by story theology setting. The goal of the project is to learn how to reflect on their own identity toward a transformative way of thinking.
