2016년 2월부터 2018년 5월 동안 매월 우리나라 전 해역에서 봉고네트로 난자치어를 채집하여 분석한 결과 가자미과 10종의 전기자어를 확인할 수 있었다.가자미과 어류 10종의 전기자어는 형태학상 크게 3개 그룹으로 구분되었다. A그룹은 꼬리에 3-4개의 뚜렷한 가로띠를 가지는 경우: 기름가자미, 갈가자미, 문치가자미, 홍가자미, B그룹은 꼬리의 등쪽과 배쪽을 따라 발달된 흑색소포가 줄지어 있는 경우: 용가자미, 물가자미, 눈가자미, 돌가자미, C 그룹은 몸과 꼬리 전체에 흑색소포가 빽빽하게 나 있는 경우: 도다리, 흘림도다리. A그룹의 기름가자미와 갈가자미를 제외한 나머지는 이전의 분자계통학적 연구와 일치하지 않았다.
