Therefore, this study attempted to find ways to nurture beauty service industries by analyzing the current beauty service and nail salon industry situations. In terms of research methods, from the launching of the national technical qualification system for cosmetologists (nail) in July 2014 to 2018, barbering, hairstyling, aesthetic and other beauty industry trends and nail salon industry trends were analyzed, focusing on five metropolitan cities. In the barber industry, the number of businesses, number of employees and sales have gradually decreased in all five metropolitan cities. In hairstyling, esthetic and other beauty industries, on the contrary, increased in all five cities. The number of technicians with nationally certified cosmetology (nail) license was the highest in 2016 in Incheon and in 2015 in Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju and Busan. However, this number has steadily declined while the number of nail salons has increased annually. It was the highest in Busan. In contrast, Incheon was the highest when it comes to the number of nail care businesses that have closed. The number of nail care service trainees has been on the rise every year across the nation. As of 2018, a total of 9,823 people are studying a hygiene course for the nail salon business, and 13,000 have completed the hygiene course. It is intended to provide basic data needed to develop a plan for future beauty service industry development.
