This study examined whether Christian students, on average, differed from non-Christian counterparts in their levels of school adjustment, teacherstudent relationship, and aggressive behavior. It also assessed whether physically and emotionally abused students differed from their non-abused peers in the respective areas. Moreover, this study analyzed whether the relationship between teacher-student relationship and school adjustment is mediated by aggressive behavior and whether the mediating effect of aggressive behavior is moderated by child abuse experience. This study utilized the KCYPS dataset examining first graders in middle-school. No differences were found between Christian and non-Christian students in their levels of school adjustment, teacher-student relationship, and aggressive behavior. However, the proportion of students with high levels of abuse was lower in the Christian community. Students who experienced higher levels of child abuse, on average, exhibited aggressive behavior more frequently and had a more difficult time adjusting to school than students who experienced no to low levels of child abuse. Results also suggest that the indirect effect of teacher-student relationship on school adjustment via the mediation of aggressive behavior varies depending on the student’s level of child abuse experience.
