This study investigates the Jeoksam’s characteristics of form and underclothing during the Joseon Dynasty. Since the 17<SUP>th</SUP> century, Jeoksam has alternately been called Hansam, Sama, and Dansam, and can be defined as underwear worn under a Jeogori or as a summer single Jeogori. By examining the relic data in an excavated costume report, I identified its formative characteristics such as Git, Moo, sleeve, Badae, Dongjeong, and textile. Mokpangit was most frequently identified in the 1<SUP>6th</SUP>_17<SUP>th</SUP> centuries. Among the Moo types, Big-triangle-Moo was most in the 16th century, and the no-Moo type has been most common since the 17<SUP>th</SUP> century. In terms of the sleeve type comparing the with of armholes and cuffs, narrower and straighter forms coexisted without age distinction. To cover the hand, either Hansam was added to the end of the cuffs or the sleeve was lengthened. In order of frequency of use, textiles used ramie, silk tabby(Ju, 紬), cotton, hemp, gauze, satin and thin silk tabby(Cho, 綃), and the use of cotton increased in 16<SUP>th</SUP>_17<SUP>th</SUP> centuries. In the single_layer Jeoksam, the position of the Badae was typically at the shoulder(back), and was located at the Git, and armhole. In addition, there was no Dongjeong and no closure. The distinguishable 16th century types are the narrow Git, Mokpangit+Big-triangle-Moo type, and those in the 17<SUP>th</SUP> century are the Mokpangit+no-Moo type and the Kalgit+no-Moo type. Jeoksam worn as underwear has no sympathy with decorations, and Goreum or Seop are sometimes omitted. The wide Git, at almost 20centimeters, is also only visible in Jeoksam. Based on this, the lined Jeoksam can be reclassified.
